Cold smoker tutorial

Here is an excellent weekend project to do! if you are in the mood for some great smoked cheese, bacon, sausage, you have come to the right post. In this post, you will learn how to make your own cold smoker that will be able to smoke delicate foods with out any heat. Cheese is one of those delicate items that must be cold smoked or you run the risk of melting the cheese if you try to smoke it the low n slow way.

Items that are needed:
  • An empty cylinder cookie tin. Such as those from pep-ridge farm
  • A NEW soldering iron
  • Wood chips
  • Cooking apparatus such as a grill or a cardboard box with a large hole in the top for exhaust
  • A cooking grate to place food on
First things first, EAT THE COOKIES. Once that is done, puncture 5 holes into the bottom of the tin. the middle one should be a half inch diameter and the others should be around a 1/4 inch. In the lid of the tin, make a hole large enough for the soldering iron to fit snugly into the hole. Fill the tin full of chips and shove the iron into the chips and plug it in. With in a few minutes, you should see wisps of blue smoke cumming out the holes. Place a block of cheese on a clean cooking grate inside of a gas grill or charcoal grill. I have used a cardboard box before. haha. Place the cold smoker under the cheese or other food item and smoke away. Thats it!
